Since 2002, SJK is designated as an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School offering the Primary Years Programme (PYP). The School is currently looking at expansion of IB programmes to the Upper School over the next several years. The principles of IB permeate programmes at SJK as we prepare students for college and university studies and develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who are engaged citizens of the world.
The mission of the International Baccalaureate Organization is to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
To this end the IBO works with schools to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment. The goal of an IB education is to develop students who are open-minded, caring, knowledgeable, thinkers, inquirers, communicators, principled, risk-takers, balanced and reflective.
The International Baccalaureate was founded in Geneva, Switzerland in 1968 as a non-profit educational foundation. The goal was to create a programme for internationally mobile students preparing for university. Over time, this developed into a high quality, global programme of international education recognized by the best-known universities in the world. SJK is currently the only school in the Waterloo and Guelph region to offer the IB's PYP programme, and one of over 300 internationally. World wide the growth of IB at various programmes is approaching 2000 schools.
