SJK's Junior Kindergarten Program

Developing a passion for lifelong learning.

Learning to co-operate in a community of learners and exposure to a stimulating environment in the Junior Kindergarten program will excite your child's curiosity and encourage cognitive development.

The Junior Kindergarten program at SJK provides young children with opportunities to develop their intellectual, social, emotional and physical well-being. Through interaction with classmates and the SJK community, each child has the opportunity to develop the essential skills necessary for responsible living.  A secure, warm and encouraging environment is created to meet the needs of young children. The academic day begins at 8:30 a.m. and concludes at 3:20 p.m. The caring teaching staff consists of a full-time teacher with a classroom assistant with a ratio of one adult for every nine students. The students in this full-time program (five days a week) receive exemplary academic instruction and specialist instruction in the fields of physical education, music and French. There are also opportunities for participation in student performances, a full library program including book borrowing, computer instruction, and field trips.

The philosophy of SJK's Junior Kindergarten program is to provide a curriculum that develops the positive dispositions inherent in young children towards learning. These traits include curiosity, resourcefulness, independence, initiative and responsibility. At the same time, these young learners construct the essential skills of literacy and numeracy in preparation for the Senior Kindergarten program.
