SJK's Senior Kindergarten Program

Fostering a love of learning and establishing the building blocks for reading and numeracy

The goal of the Senior Kindergarten program at SJK is for each child to attain excellence, through fostering a love of learning, confidence building and establishing a solid academic foundation for grade one. Enhancing skills in critical thinking and problem solving are key objectives of this learning process. A variety of teaching methods - including individual, small group, whole class and child choice activities, as well as direct instruction - all contribute to a positive classroom environment for your child. The caring teaching staff consists of a full-time teacher and a classroom assistant with a ratio of one teacher for every ten students. During this full-time program, running from 8:30 a.m. to 3:20 p.m. each day, students receive expert teaching instruction and specialist instruction in the fields of physical education, music and French.

The Senior Kindergarten philosophy at SJK fosters the social, emotional, intellectual and physical development of each child.  There are also opportunities for student participation in the Primary Choir, the arts and field trips.
