We welcome you to submit your application online!
We will reach out to you once your application has been submitted to set up a visit day and to collect any required supporting documentation.
Please feel free to reach out to us at any time with questions, or to set up a tour of our beautiful campus. We look forward to meeting you and your family!
SJK begins accepting applications for admission on September 15 the year prior to the student’s entry (for example, we will begin accepting applications for September 2017 entry on September 15, 2016).
SJK does not have an application deadline – we admit qualified students on a first come, first served basis until all available places in that student’s grade are full. We advise that students apply as early as possible.
SJK has an average class size of sixteen students.
Our maximum class size is 22 students, but our classes are typically smaller. We are committed to ensuring that our classes do not exceed maximum capacity. SJK is a small school, with a student body consisting of approximately 375 students in Grades JK – 12.
We believe that small class sizes allow for maximum interaction with the teacher, an individualized approach, and an environment where each student feels known and cared for.
We typically admit new students into every Grade, except Grade 12. Unfortunately, due to the 2-year nature of the IB Diploma Programme, we are unable to admit students into Grade 12 unless they have already completed their DP1 (grade 11) year at an IB School.
New students are warmly welcomed to SJK by their peers and our faculty and SJK is committed to supporting new students as they adjust to life in their new school.
The ideal SJK student strives to embody the characteristics of the IB Learner Profile:
SJK values high standards of conduct, academic achievement and teaching. We have respect for ourselves, each other, our environment, our history and traditions. We welcome applications from students who share those values.
We engage with the student and the student’s parents in a discussion about the student’s goals, expectations and past experiences with school. We consider the student’s report card(s) and ask that prospective students currently in grades 6-10 write an entrance test, approximately 60 minutes in duration, that features reading comprehension, math and logic questions.
Finally – and perhaps most importantly – we welcome the student to spend a day with us at SJK, in the classroom with their peers. The student will be paired with a buddy for the day, a student who is the same age and shares similar interests. This gives your child an opportunity to experience SJK in action and determine for themselves whether SJK is the right fit.
First and foremost, we want to admit students who want to be at SJK, who believe that SJK will help them to achieve their goals, and who want to make the most of their SJK experience, in and out of the classroom.
If your child has an Individual Education Plan or has undergone a Psycho-Educational assessment in the past, we ask that you please provide us with a copy of this documentation along with the application. We will invite you to meet with our Learning Strategist as well as the Upper/Lower School Director to further discuss your child’s needs.
We look forward to partnering with you to determine whether SJK is the best fit for your child, and to develop a support plan in order to ensure your child’s success and happiness at SJK.
Read more about tuition fees by exploring the Tuition Fees drop-down tab for your child’s grade.
There are some additional costs to consider. Please note that in addition to tuition, a non-refundable Registration Fee of $2000.00, payable upon enrolment, will apply to all new students. Full list of incidental fees/charges »
SJK is committed to ensuring access to students of merit regardless of means. However, as a not-for-profit, fee-dependent school, the resources available for Financial Assistance are limited.
We offer a limited number of partial bursaries to new and returning SJK students. Unfortunately, SJK is not in a position to offer full scholarships.
If you feel that you need Financial Assistance in order to make SJK a possibility for your family, we welcome you to apply.
First, submit your child’s application for admission. SJK only reviews Financial Assistance applications from admitted students. Once your child has been admitted to SJK, we welcome you to submit an application for Financial Assistance.
Submit your application online to Apple Financial Services. Please note that there is an application fee of $100.00. The application takes into account your family income and expenses, using a formula to determine a funding recommendation. There is no “cut off” for family income level that would make your family eligible for funding, as Apple Financial uses a complex formula that takes into account your family’s financial obligations, in addition to income. If you feel that you need funding, we welcome you to apply, and if a funding recommendation is made, we will do our best to meet your needs.
Please note that Financial Assistance is distributed on a first come-first served basis so we encourage you to apply early, no later than March 31.
New students entering Grades 9-11 will be automatically considered for a one-time IB Entrance Bursary.
This award is a modest partial bursary, to be credited toward tuition for the first year of study only. Award availability is limited. Bursaries will be awarded to exceptional candidates based on their application for admission. Academic results, entrance test results, demonstrated leadership ability and an interview with the Director of Enrolment will be taken into consideration.
IB Entrance Bursaries are available to Canadian students only. Students must apply for admission prior to March 31, 2017 in order to be considered for the IB Entrance Bursary.
SJK graduates, with support from our guidance department, earn post-secondary opportunities that best match their skills, aspirations and character.
Recent graduates are currently attending top universities all over the world. In recent years, 100% of our graduates have been admitted to their top choice institution. Canadian universities continue to be the most popular choices for our graduates, with Waterloo, Western, McGill, Queen's and Laurier being our top 5 destinations.
Our Guidance Counsellor will meet with students regularly, starting in grade 10, to discuss post-secondary goals, interests and options. Course selection is a collaborative process and students carefully consider their post-secondary goals, in addition to their skills and interests, when selecting their Diploma Program courses. SJK is Waterloo Region's SAT test centre and our Guidance Counsellor can assist students interested in studying in the United States, ensuring that students excel in all components of the comprehensive application.
Yes! We offer bus transportation from Cambridge, Kitchener/Waterloo, and Guelph, and some rural areas within the vicinity of these cities.
There is an additional cost for bus transportation. We ask that families register for bus transportation in late June. Our busing provider, Elliott Coach Lines, will design their routes based on participation.
The morning bus drops students at the school at approximately 8:15 a.m. The bus departs after school at 3:30 p.m. There is a late bus that departs at 5:15 p.m.
The late bus is available to students in Grades 6 and up – students sign up for this bus as needed on a daily basis. The late bus does centralized drop-offs only, so you will need to pick your child up at the stop closest to your home.
Please note: The late bus does not run on Fridays. Students must take the after school bus at 3:30, or make arrangements to be picked up at school.
Yes! We offer child care before school, starting at 7:30am, and after school until 5:15pm. Both programs are available for students in JK – Grade 6.
The cost of before and after school care is included in tuition. The program emphasizes outdoor play and is a great opportunity for students to meet new friends in other Grades!
Yes! Students enjoy a healthy, hot lunch in our brand new Dining Hall. The meal plan includes a daily morning snack and lunch, which includes three main course options, homemade soup, salads and sandwiches.
Creating healthy food is just as important as creating delicious food at SJK. Our food services provider, Dana Hospitality, provide meals prepared by a Red Seal Certified chef. Nutritionists work with our Chef to create menus that ensure delicious, healthy meals for SJK students. Dana sources food from local Canadian producers, greenhouse growers and dedicated farmers who meet their high standards. Seasonal produce, chicken, pork, dairy and cheese all come from Ontario. Beef is 100% Canadian. There is a daily “seasonal plate” which features ingredients entirely sourced from Ontario.
Does your child have an allergy or special dietary requirement? Our Chef can work with you to ensure that your child’s needs are met.
