Upper School Student Life
As a student entering or returning to the Upper School, you will discover diverse co-curricular opportunities, extensions of our classrooms, encouraging you to engage locally, nationally and internationally. SJK strives to promote in its community an active exploration of creativity, healthy living, leadership development and service to others. Active SJK students depart the school as confident and concerned citizens and agents of change.
As a student in the Upper School you are expected to take part in co-curricular activities in at least two of three terms, with one activity involving physical fitness. Further, as a means of building teamwork and school spirit, each student is assigned to one of four intramural houses, which engage in spirit events.
Upper School students can earn varsity points throughout the year for proposing, acting and reflecting on their co-curricular involvement while maintaining high levels of academic achievement. By participating fully in a range of activities that complement their studies, students may earn a school letter while satisfying compulsory MYP and DP IB requirements. SJK also awards a Kilmarnock Diploma in recognition of a student having met requirements of SJK citizenship. At the heart of these achievements is an emphasis on academic excellence, social responsibility, and personal growth – the hallmarks of an SJK student.
