Boarding Team

Boarding Re-Imagined

The SJK Boarding team will be your primary source of support during your time in residence. They are your bridge between academics, athletics and boarding life, available to help you make the most of your experience living in Waterloo.

Mrs. Kathy Watt, Head of Boarding

Growing up in Toronto, Mrs. Kathy Watt has fond memories of beginning her teaching career north of Markham, ON as a ‘farm’ teacher. She soon became the founder of a successful Outdoor Education Programme at the farm before eventually heading back to school. After graduating teacher’s college, she moved into the classroom and spent many years teaching for the Scarborough Board of Education in Toronto.

After developing a creative experiential credit combining Grade 9 Geography and Outdoor Education at Trinity College School in Port Hope, Mrs. Watt began work as an Enrichment Teacher supporting Grades 11 and 12 students at Bishop’s College School. She combined this with work as a Supervisor for teacher candidates at Bishop’s University. She has lived and worked at three of Canada’s leading boarding schools and has years of experience working at residential summer camps teaching canoeing and English as a Second Language. Recently, she has worked as a teacher for the Upper Grand District School Board teaching English, Math and Geography to Grades 9 and 10 students who require personalized programs. Her hobbies include canoeing, walking and reading. Mrs. Watt and her husband Ian have two sons currently studying at university.

Mr. Jordan Hannah, Assistant Head of Boarding

Mr. Jordan Hannah completed his honours B.Sc. in Kinesiology at the University of Waterloo while playing varsity men's basketball for the Warriors. His experience with the UW campus and the region of Waterloo make him a valuable asset to the SJK boarding team. He completed his B.Ed from Western University in 2013. Mr. Hannah has 5 years of teaching experience at different independent schools in the region, as well as extensive coaching experience with students of all ages.

Mr. Hannah’s goal is to inspire students to become lifelong learners and gain a passion for success. He feels that when young people understand that they can be successful with effort, patience, and persistence, anything is possible! Mr. Hannah firmly believes that every student should feel proud of themselves, no matter what level they are working at and he hopes to bring this feeling of pride to his classroom. He strives to help all students achieve their learning goals through implementation of transdisciplinary models of learning, current technology, and collaboration.

Ms. Meghan Bellamy, Boarding Associate

Ms. Meghan Bellamy was raised outside of a village, and spent her childhood years enjoying everything that living in the country had to offer, developing a love of nature as well as a strong work ethic. After completing her Master of Education degree at the University of Victoria, Ms. Bellamy eventually returned to Ontario and joined SJK in 2017 as a member of the Teaching Innovation Program (TIP). In her first year at SJK, Ms. Bellamy shared her keen interest in education, social justice, equality, and environmental stewardship with students, staff and faculty alike.

Ms. Bellamy’s education philosophy entails allowing students to learn in different ways, ask questions, explore their passions, and take risks, and to provide them with a safe place in which to do this. Her favourite aspects of SJK are Newton House (for its functional design) and the warmth of the SJK community.
