Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, Mr. David Newman moved to Canada with his family at the age of 14. After graduating from Queen's University, he began teaching English and drama in Calgary, Alberta, then returned to the United Kingdom to teach for four years at Bristol Cathedral School. Mr. Newman has directed and designed high school theatre productions annually over a period of more than 20 years! In addition to serving as Chair of the Arts at SJK, he also teaches MYP and DP English and Dramatic Arts. 

Mr. Newman proudly believes in the confidence, empathy, and insight that an education in English and the arts gives students and that every student deserves opportunities to develop these skills. He continues to be inspired by his students – past, present, and future.
