Balance at SJK, which includes academics, sports, leadership, service or the arts, is part of who we are as a school and community. The Arts are integral to an International Baccalaureate education, beginning in the Primary Years, all the way through to the Diploma Programme in Grades 11 and 12. IB reminds us that, “the Arts stimulate young imaginations, challenge perceptions and develop creative and analytical skills.” (International Baccalaureate)
Arts Around US celebrates the visual and performing arts at SJK. The evening featured our graduating artists proudly representing their work and considerable efforts from the past two years. Grade 12 student Sydney H., was awarded the Head of School Art Award, her artwork will remain on display at SJK for years to come.
The evening also included the Performing Arts in the Chapel, where some dance; firstly, the Schwartz sisters in a Ballet Duet, and the DP Dance students, Lucy, Olivia and Erin in some contemporary pieces were enjoyed. Guests were treated to the highest of musical standards with the SJK Singers and the Jazz Band, who once again amazed and dazzled.
The finale for Arts Around Us was a dramatic presentation in the form of a one-act play entitled Sorry, Wrong Number by Lucille Fletcher. Our Upper School students deserve the highest of accolades for their performances and work backstage; the production took part in the recent CIS Ontario Drama Festival.
