This year marks 50 years of Earth Day! Even though we are not together as a community, there are lots of ways for SJK families to think about the Earth at home. Read on for suggestions from SJK's Environmental Club for you to participate in at home.
Spend some time in nature! Not only is fresh air and exercise good for your body, trees give us perspective and peace. Many of them have lived much longer than us. Take a bag with you to collect any garbage you find on the way.
Eat local and plant-based foods when possible! Eating in season not only tastes better, but food travels shorter distances, reducing the environmental impact of your meal. Sticking to a vegetarian lifestyle reduces carbon emissions, water consumption and deforestation.
Limit your digital pollution. Clean up your inbox of unneeded messages, unsubscribe from newsletters you don’t find useful and consider switching to an ethical search engine. This Google Chrome add-on finances tree planting!
Spend the evening watching, Jane Goodall’s new film, The Hope, which premieres on Earth Day (April 22) on National Geographic channel or Disney+.
Use this week as a reminder that we all need to work together to take care of the Earth! Remember to sport your favourite green garments on Wednesday, April 22 for Earth Day and share your photos with us by submitting them to ShareYourStory@sjkschool.org.
