Update from SJK's Nepali Friends

Tracey Duldhardt
As we made our shift to remote learning, our extended community began to wonder how our friends in Nepal have been managing with the pandemic. Mrs. Tracey Duldhardt and other Trek Nepal alumni have been in touch with our Nepali friends. Read on for Mrs. Duldhardt's update from our Nepali friends.
"Over the past number of weeks, our close friends and contacts in Nepal have reached out to let us know they are doing well in the midst of this global pandemic. The greatest challenge our Nepali friends are facing during the lockdown is getting access to regular medications needed for non-virus conditions (for example, diabetes and high blood pressure). For those of you that participated in a Trek Nepal trip, you’ll be unsurprised to know that Tashi is working hard to secure life-saving medications, along with protective personal equipment and medical supplies.

We are proud to report that the SJK Nepal Fund has already sent support to help Tashi secure many resources. More details will be shared soon. For now, continue reading for updates from our Nepali friends below. Nepal has not had many cases of COVID-19, but has been in lock down for some time. The lockdown is expected to continue into May.

Karma, Neema, Lhakpa Yangzom, and Jigme are all safe at home together.

Jigme is working hard at home, just like our SJK students!

Everyone in Thakani is staying home in the village.

The school in Sarvodaya has been made into a quarantine hospital. Some who live in the area have been tested for COVID-19 at this location, but no positive cases have been reported in the area.

As expected, Tashi is working diligently with his brother, Pasang, who is a doctor. They are supporting all the villages in the Helambu region, including Sermathang, Sarvodaya, and Tarkegang.

We hope to share another update from our Nepali friends soon. Thank you to everyone that has contributed to the SJK Nepal Fund over the years, as it has proven to be an excellent way for us to maintain our connection and support of this vibrant community that we hold close to our hearts at SJK."
