Born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, Mr. Watt attended Upper Canada College and was Class Valedictorian, as well as recipient of the J. Herbert Mason Gold Medal. He holds a bachelor's degree in philosophy from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario; a bachelor of education from Brock University, St. Catharine’s, Ontario; and a masters of arts in leadership from Royal Roads University, Victoria, British Columbia. He holds IB qualifications across the continuum (PYP. MYP and DP) in Assessment and Administration and has completed his Ontario Principal's Qualifications.
Mr. Watt started his career in independent schools in Ontario and taught at both the middle and high school levels at both boarding and day schools. This has included holding positions as Teacher and Athletic Director at Lakefield College School, and Head of Senior School and Dean of Student Life at Trinity College School. Prior to joining SJK, Mr. Watt was Head of School at Bishop's College School in Quebec.

An avid outdoor enthusiast, Ian is a three-time member of the Canadian National Whitewater Canoe/Kayak team and two-time national champion. He is also an experienced wilderness canoe guide. He and his wife Kathy are parents to two children.
