The Boathouse

The centre of experiential education at SJK: the Boathouse offers spectacular views, tranquil learning spaces and all-season access to Chalmers' Pond.
Situated on our gorgeous and tranquil Chalmers' Pond, the Boathouse is a multi-purpose facility that is used for collaborative work, conference space, special events and outdoor experiential learning. The surrounding deck and dock help stage outdoor activities including canoeing, fishing, ice skating and environmental studies.

The School complated a rejuvenation project for Chalmers' Pond and the surrounding natural waterfront, including the addition of new outdoor learning spaces, additional decking and the removal of invasive, non-native species. The beautiful boardwalk was also expanded and extends out into the middle of the Pond, providing a spectaular view of the Grade 12 Pond Jump.

Our Kids School Review

"The pond is used in the fall and spring, including a 24-hour pond study for the Grade 7s, where they camp out there overnight. In the winter, the pond is maintained as a skating rink. The adjacent green space provides an opportunity for instruction and recreation, including a maple sugar program each year. And at graduation, the Grade 12 class celebrates by jumping into the pond."
