MYP Personal Project Showcase was a tremendous success

Students in the final year of the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) identify an area of interest and then craft an inquiry-based project that serves to showcase the skills they have developed over the four years of the MYP. This year-long project, called the Personal Project, is one of the few times in a student’s career that they are genuinely provided with the opportunity for complete creative freedom to learn what they wish to learn.
On Thursday, October 24 the Grade 10 students hosted the MYP Personal Project Showcase. Both a celebration of learning and an opportunity to receive feedback prior to writing the formal report that is submitted to the International Baccalaureate for external grading, this year’s students impressed parents, teachers, and peers with the depth and creativity of their projects. Projects included art portfolios and gallery shows, restoring a boat and unseizing a four-stroke engine, writing books on a variety of subjects, and exploring technology to create, solve, and invent.

I would also like to extend my gratitude to Mrs. George for her mentorship in the initial stages of the project, our cleaning staff for changing Founders' Hall into an exhibit hall within a matter of moments, Chef Ryan and Dana Food Services for the delicious snacks, the parents who came to talk to the kids about their projects, the faculty mentors for their tireless coaching efforts, and most importantly, the Grade 10 students.
