SJK invites you to participate in Commit 20

SJK Wellness Team
For the last week the Wellness Team has been working behind the scenes to determine the best way to support the SJK community in their health and wellness practices during our community's launch of remote learning. We wanted a balanced approach that would allow everyone to work different aspects of their health and wellness. We were introduced to a concept called Commit 20.
Created by Mr. Joe Danis (faculty member Ms. Pam Danis’ husband), this concept it seemed like the perfect approach because it is simple and meets people where they are at. Commit 20 means moving 20 minutes a day, being still for 20 minutes a day, and pursuing growth through creativity for 20 minutes a day. These can be done anytime, anywhere and can be adapted to meet the needs of any age group or audience. Mr. Danis has facilitated this concept with people from all over the world and in the process has created healthy and vibrant online communities, focused on personal growth and overall well being.

Why is it effective?
It meets you where you are. Anyone can begin the practices of movement, stillness, and growth. The key is to simply begin.

It’s micro. Micro changes have been proven to be more effective and sustainable than making big, audacious goals. Goals are important, but we are defined by our habits.

It’s simple. No special equipment or memberships required. Simply move your body, find a sense of peace by focusing on the breath, and read or write. Can’t be any simpler than that!

It’s tangible. The benefits of basic movement, meditation, and reading, writing, or other forms of creative expression have been proven to have significant health benefits when done on a consistent basis. Benefits that include stress reduction, heart and cardiovascular health, and enhanced memory and cognitive abilities.

It’s authentic. It’s all about you and practicing the things that serve your identity and your core values in a healthy, holistic way.

Will you accept our challenge to participate in Commit 20? Capture your efforts and share them on social media, being sure to tag the School (on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter) and use the hashtags #Commit20 and #ThisIsSJK! We'll share your updates with our community to show your approach to Commit 20.
