Reconnecting with Students after March Break

Jory Breen
After a March Break spent reading, and planning, and digitally meeting, it has been amazing to get back to ‘the classroom’ and reconnecting with the students. Over the last couple of weeks I have been in awe, watching how hard the faculty and staff of SJK have been working to get ready for SJK's launch of Remote Learning. It's a transition that we didn't anticipate making, but are excited to embark upon.
There is a lot of uncertainty not only in the world right now but also in trying to figure out what may or may not work in remote teaching. All of that seems less important when you have the opportunity to connect again like we have this week. I had the chance to hear about the students' breaks, answer their questions, calm some nerves, and truly feel their excitement. It's that excitement that I missed most. SJK's student community is so strong that it can be felt at a distance and over the internet. Our first morning spent reconnecting as a community was a reminder of why the work we've been doing over the break is so worthwhile. We're back in action! Although it may be very different right now, we're making it work in true SJK style.
