Mr. Steven Batts

Mr. Batts earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) in Secondary Education from the University of Hull, England. He is also an Ontario Certified Teacher.

Originally from Grimsby, a small fishing town in eastern England, Mr. Batts brings nearly two decades of teaching and leadership experience to SJK. Over 18 years in secondary education, he has served as a Teacher of Mathematics, Faculty Lead of Mathematics, Director of Mathematics, and Vice Principal responsible for the Quality of Education.

With his extensive background, Mr. Batts is dedicated to holding students accountable for their learning while nurturing curiosity and growth through the lens of the IB learner profile. His teaching emphasizes inquiry, problem-solving, and the development of deep understanding in both mathematics and physics.

Thrilled to be joining the vibrant SJK Community, Mr. Batts looks forward to contributing to the School’s culture of excellence and innovation. As he begins this exciting new chapter—teaching in Canada for the first time—he is energized by the opportunity to grow alongside his students and colleagues in a school that values curiosity, connection, and lifelong learning.
