You're Invited: Virtual Arts Around Us 2020

David Newman
Each year in April, SJK gathers as a community to celebrate the arts with an evening of music, drama, dance, and visual art called Arts Around Us. Each arts discipline showcases the work of our talented student-artists, under the direction of our dedicated and talented faculty, in an evening that is always a highlight of the Spring season.
This year, the arts have been one of the areas most profoundly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Stratford Festival has suspended its 2020 season, New York City's Broadway is dark, concerts and festivals are cancelled or postponed. And yet, creative artists worldwide have found ways to reach out during this time of isolation and to provide creative comfort and inspiration. The show, as they say, must go on.

With that sentiment in mind, the SJK Arts Department has explored ways to showcase the arts and the talents of our students in this new virtual space in which we are living at present. It is my great pleasure, therefore, to welcome the entire SJK community to our Virtual Arts Around Us.

We will be highlighting different elements of Arts Around Us 2020 through the week. Please enjoy exploring the Arts Around Us 2020 site, which contains student work that celebrates achievements in visual arts, dramatic arts, dance, as well as instrumental and choral music by our DP music students and SJK Jazz Band.
