In late November, SJK proudly installed three new “learning nooks,” enhancing our school environment and expanding the ways we support students across the School. These innovative spaces were made possible by a generous contribution from the Parents’ Association, whose ongoing partnership continues to enrich the educational experience for every student.
We were delighted to celebrate and honour the PA at a special gathering earlier this week. As Don Kawasoe, Interim Head of School, shared:
“Today is about celebrating the generosity of our Parents’ Association for their latest landmark contribution to the School. You and your dedicated parent volunteers continue to make a direct impact on student teaching and learning, and we’re deeply grateful.
The nooks are really well used. Some students benefit from one-on-one work with peers, teachers, and learning support teachers. Others are trusted to use their academic time to work in small groups. Some students value having a quiet space to work on their own, and others enjoy having a few minutes to connect with friends during a busy day.
Space is at a premium, and our first nook worked so well that it seemed right to carve out more quiet, supportive spaces within our existing footprint.”
Strategically placed throughout the School, the nooks allow students to collaborate, recharge, focus, and continue building the resilience, independence, and confidence that make learning at SJK so meaningful.
Thanks to the Parents’ Association, SJK is better equipped to meet the needs of all learners.
