Dr. Brooke Brassard

Dr. Brooke Brassard joined SJK in January 2022 as the Associate Director, Communications & Digital Media, and transitioned into her new role as the School’s Librarian and Digital Literacy Strategist in August 2026. As an experienced educator, she loves combining her skills in research, technology, and teaching to help the SJK Community navigate the modern information landscape, solve problems, and build critical digital literacy skills.

Dr. Brassard brings a deep background in post-secondary education to this role, having started teaching in 2011 at the University of Victoria, followed by instructional experience at the University of Waterloo and McMaster University. She holds a Master of Arts in History in Art from the University of Victoria and a Ph.D. in Religious Studies from the University of Waterloo—academic foundations in culture and belief that fuel her commitment to research, information literacy, and cultivating intercultural understanding and respect in the classroom.

After three years of experience working in circulation services at an academic library and driven by a passion for information literacy, Dr. Brassard earned her Master’s of Library and Information Science (MLIS) from the University of Western Ontario. Her academic excellence and leadership at Western were recognized with three prestigious honours: the Margaret Beckman Gold Medal in Library and Information Science, the Samuel D. Neill Scholarship, and the Spirit of Librarianship Award. Her rigorous MLIS training included specialized coursework in materials for older children, collection management, classification and indexing, information technology, and managing information organizations. While completing her degree, Dr. Brassard also stayed highly active in leadership and student advocacy, serving on the FIMS Appointments Committee, the CAPAL Communications Committee, and the MLIS Student Council.

In her role as Librarian, Dr. Brassard is dedicated to making research accessible, fostering information and digital literacy, and helping students confidently navigate increasingly complex information ecosystems. Whether she is guiding advanced research inquiries or sharing her lifelong passion for reading, Dr. Brassard is excited to empower students and faculty alike to become curious, critical, and engaged lifelong learners.
