SJK Holiday Skate, Hockey Game and Pub Night
In what has become an annual holiday tradition, SJK hosted alumni, faculty, friends and their families at our Holiday Skate, Alumni vs. Staff/Faculty Hockey game and Alumni Pub Night. It was a great day of reconnecting, spirited competition and toasting to the holiday season with friends and mentors.
This year's battle for the the 3rd annual SJK Alumni Challenge Cup took place on December 20, 2019 at the West End Recreation Centre in Guelph. This tradition has become a hallmark of the holiday season. With the alumni and faculty/staff both having previously hoisted the cup once, this year's version was an opportunity to take the series lead. In what was a spirited, hard-fought game, the team of alumni quickly jumped out to a 3-0 lead, shocking members of the faculty/staff team.

The grizzled faculty/staff quickly regrouped, scoring seven straight goals to take a commanding lead heading into the halftime shootout, where they netted an additional goal. The second half of the game was hotly contested, but the lead the SJK faculty/staff had built up was just too much for the alumni team to overcome. With a 12-8 final scoreline, the faculty/staff emerged victorious and took home the Alumni Challenge cup for the second time.

The Alumni Pub Night, hosted at McCabe’s Pub in Guelph, saw over 65 alumni, faculty and staff come together to toast the holiday season, converse with former teachers and mentors and enjoy an evening out on the town. It was wonderful to see many alumni from a range of years share stories of the past as they reconnected with their peers and mentors. Thank you to everyone that joined us for these events!
